Piclo is pleased to add SGS’s Strata Grid Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) as part of a growing list of DERMs providers integrated with Piclo’s flexibility marketplace platform. This collaboration aims to improve grid reliability, efficiency, and safety by enabling utilities to better manage supply-demand imbalances and grid congestion.
By integrating Piclo’s Marketplace platform into SGS’s Strata Grid, utilities can proactively and autonomously address forecasted grid constraints by initiating flexibility auctions, securing the necessary DER imports and exports, and dispatching resources in real time. In cases where forecast errors lead to unexpected grid constraints, Strata Grid’s real-time constraint management application activates additional controllable DERs to ensure grid safety and reliability. SGS’s Strata Grid and Piclo’s Marketplace platform enhance DER visibility, improve coordination between utility IT/OT systems, and deliver better price signals for utilities.
Alex Ghanem, Northeast US Lead at Piclo, said:
“At Piclo, we're excited to expand our relationship with SGS and MEPPI into North America, where the demand for end-to-end solutions for grid services from DERs across the grid is growing. Together, we're helping utility customers navigate the immense challenges from load growth by combining Piclo's marketplace solution with SGS’s Strata Grid’s reliability and safety, enabling multiple use cases for buyers and sellers of flexibility to transact, coordinate, operate, and settle grid services dynamically.”
Drew Smith, EVP Sales and Business Development, North America at Smarter Grid Solutions, Inc., said:
“SGS and Piclo have had a long-standing relationship and we are happy to expand this in North America where the need for end-to-end solutions to utilize DERs for constraint management applications across different time horizons is growing. Working with Piclo in North America allows us to animate markets for customers and evolve demand response and customer programs to a new level of engagement.”

Piclo’s mission is to decarbonise the grid. We develop software solutions that make our energy networks smarter, flexible and more sustainable. Our marketplace platform enables flex sellers (such as EV and battery owners) to access more electricity markets from one place. And enables flex buyers (system operators, US utilities) to source flexible electricity from more Distributed Energy Resources.
To date, Piclo has over 350,000 registered flexible assets representing 26+ GW of registered flex capacity, with flexibility contracts awarded totalling £75m and 3+ GW of flexible capacity procured.
Piclo currently operates in six global markets: in the UK, supporting all six Distribution System Operators (UK Power Networks, SP Energy Networks, Electricity North West, Northern Powergrid, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks and National Grid Electricity Distribution); and the independent System Operator (NESO); in Ireland (ESB Networks), Italy (E-Distribuzione), Portugal (E-REDES)); in Australia (CitiPower, Powercor); and in the United States in New York State (National Grid) and Connecticut (United Illuminating, Eversource). Aside from its leading position in the UK, Piclo has a growing presence in Europe, USA and the Asia-Pacific.
